At least 85 people, many of them young schoolgirls, have been reported killed after a devastating airstrike struck a girls’ primary school in southern Iran on Saturday, according to local authorities.
Officials said the attack hit the Shajareye Tayabeh all-girls elementary school in Minab, located in Hormozgan province, while classes were ongoing. Rescue teams continued digging through the rubble hours after the strike, warning the casualty figure could rise as more victims are located.

Reacting to the incident and the widening conflict, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, strongly condemned the escalating violence.
In a statement posted on social media, Guterres warned that continued hostilities could trigger a larger regional crisis, urging all parties to halt military actions immediately.
He emphasized that international law, including the UN Charter, prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.
“The risk of a wider regional conflict is real and carries grave consequences for civilians and global stability,” he said, calling for an urgent return to diplomatic negotiations.
The strike comes amid rapidly intensifying tensions across the Middle East, with ongoing air raids, missile exchanges, and mounting international concern about the possibility of a broader war.
