The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has renewed his strong criticism of FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe, declaring emphatically that she will not return to the Senate in 2027.
Speaking during a media chat on Monday, the minister said his prediction about the senator’s political future was not new, stressing that he first made the statement more than a year ago and sees no reason to withdraw it.
“I said it over a year ago — Senator Ireti will not come back. Mark today’s date. My report card will speak, and her report card will also speak,” Wike stated.
Wike argued that public officials must be judged strictly by their performance rather than political statements. He challenged Kingibe to present clear evidence of her achievements in office, particularly within communities across the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, many satellite towns have not benefited from visible projects tied to the senator’s tenure.
“If you are a senator, do your job well. Let the people see what you have done. Opposition is not just about talking — show your report card,” he said.
He further claimed he is willing to visit FCT communities personally to verify whether residents can point to any completed projects credited to Kingibe.
The minister also dismissed allegations that he used his influence or his relationship with Senate President Godswill Akpabio to block constituency project funding meant for the senator.
Wike described the accusations as baseless, insisting he has never interfered in Senate allocations.
He also denied claims that he refused to communicate with Kingibe or treated her disrespectfully, stating he does not even have her contact details.
“I don’t even know her phone number. I don’t pretend,” he said.
The latest remarks highlight ongoing tensions between the FCT minister and the senator, signaling that the political rivalry may intensify as the 2027 general elections approach.
