An inspector attached to the Communications Unit of the Enugu State Police Command has been accused of converting parts of the Uwani Police Barracks into a private prayer and deliverance centre, sparking outrage among residents and raising serious questions about discipline within the force.
The officer, identified as Inspector Chinyere Ayogu Adams, is alleged to have unlawfully taken over two government-owned police structures within the Uwani Barracks for regular prayer activities popularly referred to as “deliverance sessions.”
According to police insiders, the inspector allegedly acted with the knowledge and backing of officials at the Uwani Police Station, repurposing the facilities for religious gatherings that take place frequently within the barracks.
Residents living in the police quarters told SUNTV Global Channel that the activities have become a major source of disturbance, with loud prayers, chanting, and prolonged sessions disrupting rest periods, including late at night and early mornings.
Several residents said they lodged repeated complaints with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Uwani Police Station over the noise and misuse of police property. However, sources alleged that the DPO failed to take action, reportedly because he receives a weekly monetary commission from the officer involved.
Further allegations claim that Inspector Adams refers to herself as a prophetess known as “Iron Breaker” and spends more time organising and conducting prayer sessions than carrying out her official policing duties.
Senior officers within the command reportedly described her actions as “unprofessional and unbecoming of a serving police officer,” noting that they violate established police regulations governing the use of government facilities and the maintenance of order within barracks.
Beyond noise pollution, insiders warned that the situation raises broader concerns about the conversion of public property for personal religious influence and possible financial gain.
Calls are now mounting for the Enugu State Police Command and the Nigeria Police Force headquarters to urgently investigate the allegations and halt what residents describe as an abuse of office and public resources.
Efforts to reach Inspector Chinyere Ayogu Adams for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to her phone were not returned as of the time of filing this report.
Similarly, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, could not be reached, as calls to his phone went unanswered.
The Nigeria Police Force maintains strict rules on the conduct of officers and the use of police facilities, especially within barracks. Observers warn that failure to address the allegations could further undermine internal discipline and erode public confidence in the force.
