Uganda were forced into an extraordinary goalkeeping situation as Nigeria defeated the East African side 3–1 in their encounter, with the Cranes deploying three different goalkeepers over the course of the match.
The drama began when Uganda’s first-choice goalkeeper, Denis Onyango, was forced off with an injury, disrupting the team’s defensive setup early on.
His replacement, Salim Jamal Magoola, endured a nightmare outing. Just 10 minutes after coming on, Magoola handled the ball outside the penalty area, an infringement that left the referee with no option but to show a red card, reducing Uganda to ten men.
With both senior options unavailable, Uganda were compelled to turn to their third-choice goalkeeper, Alionzi Nafian Legason, who stepped in under intense pressure.
Despite Uganda’s resilience, Nigeria took full advantage of the numerical and tactical disruption, maintaining control and converting their chances to seal a 3–1 victory.
The result further underlined Nigeria’s attacking efficiency, while Uganda will be left to rue a match defined by injuries, indiscipline, and an unprecedented goalkeeping crisis.
