South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla has removed Lagos from the schedule of her APOP World Tour, following growing boycott calls linked to renewed xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa.
The Lagos concert, originally scheduled for December 22, 2026, no longer appears on the tour itinerary published on the singer’s official website. While performances across Europe, North America and South Africa remain on the schedule, the Nigerian stop has been removed.
The announcement comes days after Tyla unveiled her world tour, with Lagos listed as her only Nigerian performance. The planned concert quickly sparked widespread reactions on social media, where many Nigerians called for a boycott, arguing that South African entertainers should not perform in Nigeria while reports of attacks on foreign Africans continue in South Africa.
The campaign intensified after social media activist VeryDarkMan (Martins Otse) warned that his supporters would resist the concert if it went ahead, describing the move as a show of solidarity with Nigerians affected by the reported attacks.
However, not everyone supported the boycott. African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore argued that Tyla should not be held responsible for acts of xenophobia, urging Nigerians to direct their grievances toward those responsible for the violence rather than the musician.
Although Tyla and her management have not publicly explained why Lagos was removed from the tour schedule, the decision comes amid heightened diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and South Africa following renewed reports of xenophobic attacks and the evacuation of some Nigerians from the country.
As of the time of this report, no official statement has been issued by the singer regarding the cancellation of the Lagos performance.
