SUNTV Global reports that Nigerian troops have recorded another major success in the ongoing fight against banditry in Katsina State, following a deadly gun battle with armed criminals in Karaduwa village, Matazu Local Government Area.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out after troops received credible intelligence about the movement and activities of bandits terrorising communities in the area. Acting swiftly, the troops stormed Karaduwa village, where they encountered the armed group, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
During the confrontation, three bandits were neutralised, while several others escaped into nearby bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. One suspected bandit was captured alive and is currently in custody, assisting security agencies with ongoing investigations.
Items recovered from the scene include eight motorcycles believed to have been used by the bandits for rapid movement during attacks and escapes. Troops also seized weapons and other operational items, further weakening the criminals’ capacity to launch fresh attacks on surrounding communities.
Residents of Karaduwa village were said to have expressed relief following the operation, as the area has reportedly suffered repeated threats and intimidation from armed groups in recent months.
The latest operation is part of sustained military and security offensives aimed at flushing out bandits, dismantling their networks, and restoring lasting peace to Katsina State and the wider North-West region, which has remained under pressure from banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
