Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has strongly condemned the recent military strikes ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump against Iran, describing the action as a reckless move that could endanger American troops and destabilize the region.
In a statement released on Sunday, Harris said the attacks amount to what she called a “regime-change war,” warning that the decision puts U.S. servicemen and women directly in harm’s way while risking broader international consequences.
She argued that the military action contradicts Trump’s past campaign pledges to end overseas conflicts rather than initiate new ones.
“Let me be clear: I oppose a regime-change war in Iran,” Harris stated. “Our troops are being placed in danger for what amounts to a war of choice. This is a risky and unnecessary gamble with American lives and global stability.”
Harris acknowledged concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions but stressed that military force is not the proper solution to addressing those threats. She also pointed out that Trump himself has warned that American casualties could result from escalating tensions.
The former vice president further accused the administration of misleading the public, referencing previous claims that Iran’s nuclear program had already been eliminated.
Harris emphasized that under the U.S. Constitution, the president must obtain authorization from Congress before entering a war. She called on lawmakers to assert their authority and act swiftly to prevent deeper U.S. involvement in the conflict.
“Our troops deserve leadership that approaches decisions of war and peace with discipline and responsibility,” she said. “Congress must use every available power to stop further escalation.”
The remarks add to growing political divisions in Washington as global tensions continue to rise following the strikes.
