United States President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s naval forces have been “completely obliterated,” alleging that 158 Iranian vessels now lie at the bottom of the sea following an unspecified military confrontation.
In a statement released on Sunday, Trump said U.S. forces deliberately avoided targeting a limited number of what he described as Iranian “fast attack boats,” which he dismissed as minor threats.
“Iran’s Navy is laying at the bottom of the sea, completely obliterated — 158 ships,” Trump stated, adding that any vessels approaching what he called a U.S. blockade would be “immediately eliminated.”
He further warned that U.S. forces would respond with what he described as rapid and decisive action if Iranian vessels move near restricted waters.
Trump also claimed that maritime drug trafficking into the United States had been significantly reduced, attributing it to intensified naval enforcement operations.
However, the statements come amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, with no independent verification provided for the claims.
Iranian officials have separately issued warnings over growing military pressure in the region, particularly around the strategic Strait of Hormuz, where they allege foreign warships have been increasing their presence.
An Iranian military spokesperson had earlier warned that any hostile naval approach would be met with a strong response, escalating concerns over potential confrontation in the Gulf region.
The situation follows the collapse of recent diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran, which ended without agreement after extended negotiations.
