Troops have arrested the second-in-command to a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Auta, alongside his wife in a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Gombe State.
The suspects, identified as Bala, popularly known as “Pakapaka,” and his wife, Zulaha Bala, were reportedly apprehended after fleeing from the Dajin Madam Forest, where their criminal group had been operating.
Security sources said the operation followed sustained surveillance and targeted tracking by security operatives working to dismantle armed networks operating across the region.
A security analyst, Zagazola Makama, confirmed the development, noting that the arrests were made after days of intelligence monitoring and coordinated field operations aimed at intercepting key members of the gang as they attempted to evade capture.
Both suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.
Military sources also revealed that follow-up operations were carried out around Bayar Village after intelligence suggested that the gang’s leader had relocated to the area, though no direct contact was made during the sweep.
Security forces say ongoing patrols and surveillance operations are part of broader efforts to restrict the movement of armed groups and dismantle criminal networks operating across parts of Gombe, Plateau, Taraba, and surrounding states.
Authorities have not yet released further official details on the wider operation, but say efforts to track remaining members of the gang are ongoing.
