A multinational ride-hailing company, Bolt, has expressed deep sorrow following the shocking murder of a 22-year-old Nigerian driver in Pretoria, South Africa.
The victim, identified as Isaac Satlat, was reportedly attacked, hijacked, and strangled on Thursday night while working. Authorities later discovered his lifeless body alongside his vehicle several kilometres away in Moshongo, Attridgeville, on the outskirts of the city.
According to reports, chilling dash-cam footage captured the violent attack, sparking outrage and widespread concern online.
Satlat, who was a student, was preparing to graduate next month and had been making plans to relocate to Canada to continue his education before his life was tragically cut short.
In an official statement, Bolt described the incident as heartbreaking.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving a driver operating on the platform. Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the company said.
Bolt also confirmed it is cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities, providing relevant information to assist in the ongoing investigation. The company added that it has launched a comprehensive internal review to strengthen safety measures and enforcement protocols on its platform.
Meanwhile, police in Gauteng have arrested two suspects — a man and a woman — in connection with the killing. The female suspect is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on charges of carjacking and murder.
Authorities say a third suspect is still on the run, and members of the public are being urged to provide any useful information that could aid the investigation.
The case remains under active investigation, with more updates expected as legal proceedings continue.
