A Nigerian woman has been discovered dead under disturbing circumstances in Zawiya, sparking fresh concerns over the safety of migrants in the North African country.
According to reports by The Libya Observer, the woman’s body was found inside an under-construction concrete septic tank in the city.
Authorities confirmed that the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear as investigations are currently ongoing.
The shocking discovery has once again drawn attention to the plight of Nigerians and other African migrants in Libya, where cases of abuse, exploitation, and unexplained deaths have been repeatedly reported.
In a related development, the report recalled an earlier incident in Tripoli involving a Nigerian woman and her Ghanaian husband, who were arrested in connection with the death of an orphaned child.
According to police sources, the couple was accused of subjecting the child to prolonged abuse and starvation, which allegedly led to the child’s death. The incident, which occurred in January 2025, remains under investigation.
Further reports indicated that the child’s biological mother had died under suspicious circumstances in Libya about two years prior, after which the child was left in the care of the couple.
The latest incident has heightened calls for stronger diplomatic engagement and protective measures for Nigerians living abroad, particularly in high-risk regions.
