A popular TikTok content creator, Ogunjimi Florence, widely known as IyaGhana, has regained her freedom after being granted administrative bail following her arrest over a viral video accusing police officers of extortion in Oyo State.
The intervention that led to her release was spearheaded by the Oyo State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) in collaboration with the Take It Back Movement (TIB). Leading the effort were AAC Oyo Chairman Kayode Babayomi and activist Ismaeel Ogunsola, who held discussions with the state Commissioner of Police.
Arrest Linked to Viral Extortion Allegations
Florence was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force after posting a widely circulated TikTok video alleging that officers stationed along the Eruwa–Igboora road were extorting young commuters.
In the video, she questioned whether poor welfare and unpaid salaries might be fueling the alleged misconduct, claiming that victims were forced to pay between ₦5,000 and ₦40,000 simply to pass through the area.
She was initially detained at the Area Command in Eruwa on February 17 before being transferred to the police headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.
Bail Granted After Advocacy Efforts
Following negotiations on Thursday, authorities granted Florence administrative bail, though she has been directed to report back to the station as preparations are underway to formally charge her in court.
AAC Condemns Arrest
The AAC strongly criticized the arrest, describing it as an attempt to silence citizens who use social media to expose alleged wrongdoing.
Party officials insisted that the claims raised by IyaGhana reflect the everyday experiences of many Nigerians and urged authorities to focus on investigating alleged extortion rather than targeting whistleblowers.
