SUNTV Global Channel — A 2024 video of Mary Habila assuring the public that she was “fine and healthy” has resurfaced online, drawing renewed attention to the ongoing investigation into her death at the residence of Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi.
The video was originally recorded in June 2024 after false rumours circulated on social media claiming Habila had died. In the clip, she dismissed the reports, telling friends and followers that she was alive and in good health.
Her friend, Anita Baaki, who reportedly shared the video after Habila’s death, reflected on the painful irony of the moment, recalling how the recording was made to dispel false claims about her death just two years earlier.
In the video, Habila says she continued receiving calls and messages about the rumours before assuring viewers that she was healthy and unaware of how the false reports originated.
The resurfaced footage comes as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding Habila’s death on June 27, 2026, at the minister’s private residence in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The case has generated nationwide attention, with growing calls for a transparent investigation and a forensic autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, reports have alleged efforts to transfer the investigation from the Ebonyi State Police Command to Abuja, although authorities have yet to announce any official decision on such a move.
The controversy has also intensified following reports that Habila was a Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW), contrary to earlier claims that she was a physiotherapist. The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy has stated that her name does not appear in its register of licensed physiotherapists.
Although Habila’s father had earlier opposed an autopsy, her planned burial was suspended following widespread public concern, while police maintained that a forensic examination remains necessary to establish the cause of her death.
