A Sweden-based Nigerian political scientist, Kio Amachree, has formally petitioned President Bola Tinubu, calling for the immediate removal and investigation of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over alleged actions he claims are destabilising Rivers State.
In the petition dated February 8, 2026, Amachree accused federal authorities of interfering in the political affairs of Rivers State and warned that the situation could threaten peace and stability in the Niger Delta region.
The letter, addressed to the President through the Chief of Staff at Aso Rock, was also copied to top government and security agencies, including the Attorney-General of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, the Department of State Services, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
Amachree described his petition as a matter of “serious national concern,” stating that he acted independently without political affiliation or ambition. He said his intervention was motivated by the need to protect constitutional order, peace, and justice in Rivers State.
Introducing himself in the document, the scholar said he studied at Eton College in the United Kingdom and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. He also noted his past role as a senior executive at Philip Morris USA and his current positions as President of Worldview, a global affairs platform, and President of SKJ Records Sweden.
A major demand in the petition is the immediate removal of Wike from office, alongside a comprehensive investigation into alleged corruption, abuse of office, diversion of public funds, and unexplained wealth.
Amachree also called for a detailed audit covering luxury assets, overseas properties, and alleged financial proxies linked to the minister, insisting that the Nigerian public deserves transparency.
The petitioner further referenced a widely circulated recording allegedly showing Wike making violent threats against a political opponent, questioning why law enforcement agencies had not launched a formal investigation.
He criticised what he described as heavy federal security deployment in Rivers State, arguing that such resources should instead focus on areas battling terrorism and banditry in northern Nigeria.
Additionally, Amachree demanded justice over the killing of his cousin, Miss Ibyami Amachree, allegedly by a soldier. He called for identification of the personnel involved, disclosure of investigative findings, and prosecution if evidence supports it.
He warned that failure by authorities to act could lead him to escalate the matter through international channels, cautioning that Nigeria’s global reputation could suffer if tensions in the Niger Delta worsen.
In a strongly worded conclusion, Amachree urged President Tinubu not to ignore the petition, stressing that continued political tensions in Rivers State could have serious national consequences.
