Residents of Oyo town were thrown into panic after a 20-year-old suspect was arrested for allegedly carrying a severed human leg hidden inside a sack.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as Garuba Aminu, following a disturbing incident that occurred on Thursday morning at the Commercial Oroki area of the town.

According to police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspect was apprehended around 8:00 a.m. after he allegedly disguised himself as a scavenger while moving suspiciously around the neighbourhood.

Vigilant residents reportedly became alarmed by his unusual behaviour and decided to confront and search him. During the search, they allegedly discovered a severed lower right human leg concealed inside a large sack filled with plastic waste bottles.

Police said a joint patrol team quickly responded after receiving a distress call and arrived to find an angry mob attempting to lynch the suspect.

Officers immediately dispersed the crowd, rescued the suspect from mob action, and secured the recovered body part for forensic examination.

Authorities confirmed that Aminu has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, where detectives have launched a thorough investigation to determine the origin of the body part and the circumstances surrounding the case.

The police command praised residents for their vigilance, describing it as a strong example of community involvement in crime prevention.

However, officials also warned against jungle justice, stressing that mob actions are illegal and could obstruct proper investigations.

Police assured residents that investigations are ongoing and promised to provide further updates as new findings emerge.
