The Elegant Nurses Forum has praised the recent court victory of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, describing the judgment as a major boost for justice, democracy, and public confidence in Nigeria’s judicial system.
In a statement issued by Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide on behalf of the group, the forum said the Federal High Court ruling represents a landmark moment not only for Sowore but also for Nigerians seeking accountability from public officials.
The court had condemned the actions of law enforcement authorities over the controversial declaration of Sowore as wanted in November 2025, ruling that the move was unconstitutional, arbitrary, and an abuse of power. It stressed that only a court of law has the authority to declare any citizen wanted after due legal process.
As part of its judgment, the court awarded ₦30 million in damages against Lagos Commissioner of Police Moshood Jimoh and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
Reacting to the ruling, the nurses’ forum said the decision has helped restore faith in the judiciary at a time when many Nigerians were losing confidence in the system. According to the group, the judgment proves that justice can still prevail despite widespread public skepticism.
The forum noted that the outcome goes beyond a personal victory for Sowore, calling it a broader triumph for the rule of law and democratic values. It added that the ruling has placed clear limits on the excesses of some law enforcement officials and sent a strong warning that no public office holder is above the law.
The group also commended Sowore’s resilience throughout the legal battle, as well as the support shown by activists and citizens who stood in solidarity during the struggle.
Urging Nigerians not to lose hope, the forum encouraged continued civic engagement and persistent demands for accountability, stressing that sustained public pressure remains essential for strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring justice across the country.
