Residents of the Ori-Apata Oderemi area in Ido, Ibadan, were thrown into panic and grief after the decomposing body of a 62-year-old woman was discovered along a secluded bush path, sparking outrage across the community.
According to the Oyo State Police Command, the disturbing discovery was made by a passerby who quickly alerted authorities. Detectives who arrived at the scene found the victim lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut across her neck. Preliminary investigations indicate that the body had been left at the location for at least seven days before it was found.
Police confirmed that the corpse has been evacuated to Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, as forensic experts continue to analyse evidence recovered from the scene.
In a major breakthrough, police announced the arrest of two suspects identified as Muhammed Sanusi, 42, and Ogbu James Ajah, 40, both residents of the Ori-Apata area. Authorities say the suspects are currently in custody and are assisting investigators, while efforts are ongoing to track down other possible accomplices.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for what officials described as a “comprehensive and discreet” probe.
The gruesome killing initially triggered protests by family members and sympathisers demanding swift justice. However, calm was restored following intervention by local authorities and security operatives.
Security presence has now been reinforced in the area, with joint patrol teams deployed to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, alongside government officials, visited the community to assess the situation and sympathise with the bereaved family. He also acknowledged operational support from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Police authorities have assured residents that all those involved in the killing will be brought to justice and urged the public to provide credible information to aid the ongoing investigation.
