The Ogun State Police Command has clarified that Nigerian TikToker Mirabel, popularly known as @mirab351, was not arrested over her rape allegation, while warning that she could face prosecution if investigations prove her claim to be false.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the police remain neutral and fully committed to uncovering the truth through a lawful and transparent investigation process.
According to him, authorities will ensure justice is served based strictly on the outcome of their findings.
“If her allegations are confirmed to be true, the suspect will be arrested and charged to court accordingly. However, if the claims are found to be false, the law also provides consequences for giving false information,” he explained.
The police also dismissed viral social media reports alleging that the TikToker had been detained, describing the claims as misleading and inaccurate.
Babaseyi clarified that Mirabel voluntarily reported the case to the police, after which officers immediately commenced investigation procedures.
Police sources revealed that the Commissioner of Police had directed the Divisional Police Officer in Ibafo to urgently reach out to the victim once the case surfaced online. She was later escorted to a medical facility for examination before the case was transferred to Ogijo Division, where the incident reportedly occurred.
Authorities further disclosed that the victim has since been referred for continued medical care due to her emotional and physical condition, while assuring the public that her safety remains a priority.
The case has attracted nationwide attention following a viral video in which Mirabel alleged that an unidentified man forcefully entered her apartment on February 15, restrained her, and threatened to use family influence to evade justice.
The incident has sparked widespread public outrage, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation.
SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor developments and provide verified updates as the investigation progresses.
