Qatari authorities have begun evacuating residents living near the United States Embassy in Doha following growing security concerns linked to the escalating regional conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
According to an official advisory released Thursday, the Qatar Ministry of Interior described the evacuation as a “temporary precautionary measure” aimed at protecting civilians amid rising tensions across the Middle East.
The United States Embassy in Qatar confirmed the development through a security alert posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, urging American citizens and members of the public to avoid the area surrounding the embassy in Doha.
In the advisory, the embassy stated:
“The Qatar Ministry of Interior announced that it is evacuating residents who live near the U.S. Embassy in Doha as a temporary precautionary measure. Out of an abundance of caution, please avoid the immediate area of the U.S. Embassy.”
Authorities have not disclosed the exact nature of the threat prompting the evacuation. However, the decision comes as hostilities between the United States and its allies and Iran enter their sixth day, heightening fears of possible retaliatory attacks on diplomatic facilities across the region.
The widening conflict has already triggered diplomatic tensions globally, with countries such as Canada and Spain criticising the military escalation and the lack of consultation with the United Nations Security Council.
Earlier this week, security warnings were also issued for other U.S. facilities in the region, including a shelter-in-place directive in Dhahran after reports of potential aerial threats.
While Qatari officials have not stated how long the evacuation will remain in effect, U.S. officials have advised citizens and diplomatic staff in Qatar to stay alert, monitor local media, and follow security instructions as the volatile situation continues to unfold across the Middle East.
