The Joint Security Watch, Kwara South, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies to replicate the intelligence-driven operation that led to the successful rescue of abducted teachers and schoolchildren in Oriire, Oyo State, to secure the release of all kidnap victims still being held in Kwara South.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the group’s Coordinator, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, described the Oriire rescue as a clear demonstration that coordinated intelligence, inter-agency collaboration, and strong political commitment can effectively dismantle criminal networks without the payment of ransom.
He commended President Tinubu, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Air Force, and the Office of the National Security Adviser for what he described as a professional and intelligence-led operation that resulted in the safe rescue of the victims.
Oyin-Zubair called on security agencies to immediately deploy the same strategy in Kwara South, where several residents—including victims popularly referred to as the Woro children and women—remain in the custody of kidnappers.
He stressed that every additional day in captivity poses greater risks to the victims and appealed for urgent action to secure their safe return.
The group also advocated sustained security operations to clear forests, parks, and other remote locations allegedly serving as hideouts for kidnappers and criminal gangs across Kwara South and other parts of the country.
According to Oyin-Zubair, achieving lasting security will require increased investment in modern surveillance technology, including drones, advanced tracking equipment, operational logistics, and improved welfare for security personnel.
He further urged the Federal, State, and Local Governments to strengthen support for security agencies by providing adequate funding and the resources needed to sustain intelligence-driven operations.
The security advocate also called for stronger collaboration between security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, and local vigilante groups to enhance intelligence gathering and improve community-based security.
Reaffirming public confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions, Oyin-Zubair expressed optimism that sustained cooperation, adequate resources, and effective intelligence would significantly strengthen the fight against kidnapping and restore peace across Kwara South and other affected communities.
