The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Monday arraigned former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of certificate forgery and the misappropriation of public funds.
Nnaji, 63, appeared before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik to answer a six-count charge filed by the anti-corruption agency.
According to the ICPC, the charges include allegations of forgery of academic certificates and related documents, as well as the alleged diversion and misappropriation of public funds during his tenure as minister.
The arraignment follows months of investigation by the commission after receiving a petition that reportedly raised concerns over the former minister’s conduct while in office.
Investigators also alleged that Nnaji failed to honour several invitations issued by the commission for questioning, prompting the Federal High Court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
The ICPC said the former minister was arrested on July 1, 2026, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with the assistance of the Department of State Services (DSS), upon his arrival in Nigeria.
Following his arrest, he was taken into the custody of the anti-graft agency for further investigation before being formally charged in court.
The case is expected to proceed as the Federal High Court begins hearing evidence presented by the prosecution, while the defendant is entitled to defend himself against the allegations.
The charges remain allegations, and Uche Nnaji is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
