Fresh controversy has emerged following allegations of a secret late-night meeting between popular social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, and the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, in Abuja.
According to multiple sources, the closed-door meeting reportedly took place on Sunday night at a private lodge linked to the police chief under highly discreet circumstances.
Insiders claim that VeryDarkMan was transported to the location in a vehicle without a number plate, allegedly to avoid attention, while the compound lights were said to have been switched off prior to his arrival, heightening the secrecy surrounding the visit.
Sources further allege that discussions during the meeting centered on outspoken activist and publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, with both parties reportedly strategizing on how to confront him.
A police source familiar with the meeting claimed that VeryDarkMan accused Sowore of blackmail and misuse of his media platform, allegations which the police chief was said to have acknowledged.
According to the source, the Inspector-General allegedly encouraged the influencer to continue his online criticism of Sowore, while also advising discretion, including a warning not to publicly mention his name in such engagements.
Another insider described the meeting as a “mutual understanding” driven by shared interests, suggesting that both individuals see Sowore as a common adversary.
The development comes amid growing tensions surrounding recent legal and political controversies, including the case involving cryptocurrency entrepreneur Linus Williams Ifejirika, also known as B-Lord, who is currently facing trial in Abuja.
Sources also raised concerns about alleged surveillance activities targeting individuals close to Sowore, claiming that security operatives may be monitoring communications of his associates.
Meanwhile, questions have reportedly been raised about the tenure and retirement timeline of the police chief, with insiders alleging that the situation may be contributing to heightened sensitivity around public scrutiny.
