The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo, following a violent attack on his palace in Akure North.
According to police authorities, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening after a distress call was received around 7:50 p.m. from a community leader reporting that armed men had invaded the royal residence.
Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh disclosed that about six gunmen stormed the palace, fired sporadically, and forcefully abducted the monarch from his compound. His body was later discovered a short distance away with fatal gunshot wounds.
“The victim was found a few metres from the palace and was confirmed dead at the scene,” Jimoh stated.
Security operatives, including the Divisional Police Officer, tactical teams, local hunters, vigilantes, and personnel of the Amotekun Corps, were immediately deployed to comb nearby forests in search of the attackers.
Police say surveillance has now been intensified across the area, with ongoing efforts to track down those responsible.
Residents of the Agamo community revealed that the attack appeared to have started as a kidnap attempt that later turned deadly. The monarch’s wife narrowly escaped after the gunmen reportedly opened fire inside the palace.
The killing has heightened fear across Akure North and surrounding communities in Ondo State, where residents say kidnappings, attacks on farmers, and assaults on rural settlements have been rising in recent months.
Authorities have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
