The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the gruesome murder of a young man, Sampson Worianime, who was declared missing in November 2025, with his remains now recovered from a shallow grave.
SUNTV Global Channel gathered that Worianime, a youth from Ogbogbo Community in Okrika Local Government Area, went missing on November 11, 2025, after accompanying members of his community youth group to measure land at their former settlement. His sudden disappearance triggered widespread concern among family members and residents of the community.
Following weeks of uncertainty and distress, Worianime’s mother formally petitioned the police, prompting an intensive investigation by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) of the Rivers State Police Command.
In a statement released on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest of two suspects identified as Igwe Alex (26), the Chief Security Officer of Aleto-Eleme Community, and John Mikel (24). Both suspects are indigenes of Aleto-Eleme in Eleme Local Government Area.
According to police findings, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects abducted two youths from Okrika on the day of the incident. While one of the abducted victims reportedly escaped, Worianime was allegedly killed by the suspects.
“The suspects confessed during preliminary investigations to abducting two youths from Okrika. One managed to escape, while Sampson Worianime was killed and his body disposed of,” the police statement disclosed.
The suspects later led security operatives to the crime scene, where the remains of the deceased were recovered from a shallow grave, bringing a painful but crucial closure to the case for the victim’s family.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and cooperating with investigators, as efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices linked to the crime.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, condemned the killing, describing it as a heinous and unacceptable act. He assured residents that all those involved would be brought to justice.
“This is a heinous crime, and the Rivers State Police Command is fully committed to ensuring that everyone responsible faces the full wrath of the law,” the police commissioner stated, directing detectives to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation.
The Command also reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information to aid crime-fighting efforts across the state.
