Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who has been accused of posing as the Director-General of the Project Fund and Public Infrastructure and Finance Commission (PFIPC), has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish an independent panel to investigate the alleged ₦1.3 billion budget allocation scandal linked to the commission.
In an open letter dated July 13, 2026, Adeyemi welcomed the President’s directive to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the matter but argued that the probe should be expanded to ensure transparency, credibility, and public confidence.
He proposed the creation of a multi-stakeholder investigative panel comprising representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), civil society organisations, international observers, and anti-corruption agencies to oversee the investigation.
Adeyemi also claimed that he could not voluntarily surrender to authorities under the current circumstances, alleging that he had received credible threats to his life. He further raised concerns over the reported death of an individual he described as a key intermediary in the matter and called for a broader investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to him, he is prepared to cooperate fully with investigators and present documentary evidence once an independent panel is constituted.
The letter was copied to several national and international institutions, including the United Nations, the Nigerian Bar Association, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the ICPC, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and other relevant bodies.
Meanwhile, Adeyemi is expected to be arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations including forgery, impersonation, and related offences.
The Nigeria Police Force has filed an eight-count charge against him and two other defendants. Court records indicate that several senior government officials have been listed as prosecution witnesses in the case.
The allegations contained in Adeyemi’s letter have not been independently verified, and the relevant authorities had not publicly responded to his latest requests as of the time of filing this report.
