The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe of allegedly forging documents belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and falsely claiming it uploaded the names of the party’s candidates to the commission’s nomination portal.
In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the claim as false and called on INEC to investigate what it alleged was the unauthorised use of documents purportedly issued by the electoral commission.
According to the party, INEC grants access to its nomination portal only to the leadership it officially recognises, insisting that the commission cannot issue multiple nomination access codes to different factions of the same political party.
The ADC argued that accepting the Gombe-led faction’s claim would undermine the integrity of the electoral process by suggesting that any group could upload candidates’ names and present itself as the legitimate leadership of a registered political party.
The party further alleged that documents purportedly originating from INEC were being used without authorisation to create confusion over the party’s leadership and nomination process, urging the electoral body to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
The ADC also dismissed claims that it is divided into factions, maintaining that it has only one recognised leadership with valid access to INEC’s nomination portal.
According to the party, it has already concluded its nomination process in line with the Electoral Act and INEC’s guidelines and has successfully submitted the details of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates through the commission’s official portal.
The party urged its members, supporters, and the general public to disregard what it described as misleading information from individuals it called “agents of distraction” and to rely only on official communications issued through the recognised leadership of the ADC.
As of the time of filing this report, INEC had not issued any official response to the allegations or the request for an investigation.
