The Benin Kingdom has been thrown into controversy as the Benin Traditional Council summons popular TikToker, Habeeb Adelaja, widely known as Peller, over an alleged breach of palace protocol.
SUNTV Global Channel gathered that the social media influencer gained unauthorised access to the revered Oba’s Palace on March 6, sparking outrage within the palace hierarchy and triggering an internal investigation.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the Council described the act as “embarrassing” and confirmed that Peller ignored an earlier invitation to appear before an investigative panel.
“The Council is therefore using this public medium to demand that Mr Adelaja present himself immediately… and tender an unreserved written apology for the embarrassment caused,” the statement read.
Sacred Institution Disrespected
The Council stressed that the palace is not a place for casual visits or content creation, warning that such actions undermine centuries-old traditions.
“The Palace is not a public thoroughfare… it is the ancient and spiritual seat of the Oba of Benin,” the statement emphasized.
The revered monarch, Oba Ewuare II, remains the custodian of these long-standing customs, which the Council insists must be respected at all times.
Disciplinary Actions Already Taken
The incident has already led to serious internal consequences:
- A palace chief has been suspended indefinitely
- A staff member has been detained and charged
- A queen is reportedly facing possible removal
The Council warned that failure by Peller to comply with its directive could result in legal action.

Peller’s visit was part of his widely publicised 2026 nationwide tour, which kicked off in Benin City.
However, videos that surfaced online showed the influencer:
- Entering restricted areas of the palace
- Interacting casually with palace figures
- Leading a crowd of followers into the premises
- Making remarks considered inappropriate, including addressing a chief with the Yoruba title “Kabiyesi”
He was also seen engaging in light-hearted commentary during the visit, actions the Council described as a “breach of peace” and cultural disrespect.
Tighter Security Measures Introduced
In response, the Council has announced stricter security protocols within the palace:
- Mandatory written approval before entry
- Escort requirements for all visitors
- Zero tolerance for unauthorised access
“Anyone found within the Palace without valid clearance will be handed over to security agencies,” the Council warned.
