The Oyo State Government has demolished a notorious kidnappers’ hideout located at Lakoun along the Ayegun–Olojuoro Road in Ibadan, following the successful rescue of the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons.
The demolition exercise came after security agencies uncovered the abandoned hideout where the victims were allegedly held captive by suspected kidnappers.
Reports indicate that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force carried out a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation that led to the rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, on Saturday evening.
According to security sources, the rescue operation resulted in a fierce gun battle between police officers and the kidnappers. Two suspected members of the criminal gang were neutralized, while two firearms were recovered from the scene. The victims were rescued unharmed.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police later visited the location where the victims were reportedly held, reaffirming the commitment of security agencies to dismantling criminal networks operating within the state.
Mrs. John-Paul and her children were abducted on June 3, 2026, while traveling within Ibadan. Eyewitnesses reported that armed men intercepted their vehicle, blocked their path, and forcefully whisked them away.
A red Toyota Camry believed to belong to the victims was later discovered abandoned at the scene, causing panic among residents and sparking widespread concern.
Family members of Chief Adelabu had earlier described the incident as traumatic and appealed to security agencies for urgent intervention.
Mrs. John-Paul, a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian, reportedly retired voluntarily last year and relocated to Ibadan with her children. She was said to be making plans to reunite with her husband, who resides in the United States.
Security authorities have intensified efforts to track down fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate, some of whom are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds during the operation.
Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to eliminate criminal hideouts and strengthen security across Oyo State.
