Kwara, Nigeria — Armed bandits have reportedly invaded Ndeji village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting a housewife and her son during a late-night raid that has deepened fears among residents already battling rising insecurity in the region.
Local sources told SUNTV Global Channel that the attackers struck on Saturday night, storming the quiet community under the cover of darkness before forcefully taking the victims from their home.
Residents said the armed men arrived unexpectedly, creating panic across the village as frightened families scrambled for safety. Witnesses explained that the gunmen quickly seized the woman and her child before disappearing into nearby bushes, leaving the community in shock.
As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the abducted victims remain unknown, while villagers fear the kidnappers may demand ransom.
The latest incident has further heightened tension across communities in Edu Local Government Area, where residents say cases of banditry and kidnapping have become increasingly frequent in recent months.
In a similar attack reported in February, suspected terrorists reportedly killed at least two people and abducted a local trader during a violent assault on Gbugbu community in the same local government area.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers fired gunshots indiscriminately into the air as they stormed the area, forcing residents to flee their homes for safety while chaos spread through the town.
During that attack, a businessman identified as Rilwan Bello was kidnapped from his shop located beside the popular Ezigbo Store in the community. His salesperson was reportedly shot dead at the scene before the gunmen fled with Bello into the surrounding forest.
Residents say the growing wave of attacks has left communities in constant fear, with many calling on security agencies to intensify patrols and strengthen protection across rural areas of the state.
Security authorities in Kwara State have yet to release an official statement regarding the latest abduction as of press time.
