A family in Tripoli has reportedly handed their son over to the police after he was accused of defrauding multiple victims of millions of dinars in an alleged scam.
According to a report by The Libya Observer, the suspect allegedly defrauded 16 victims of a total of 12 million Libyan dinars before disappearing after collecting the funds. His sudden disappearance raised alarm among those who had given him money.
The report stated that the suspect’s relatives later discovered where he was hiding. The family subsequently contacted authorities and disclosed his location to enable law enforcement officers to arrest him.
Following the tip-off, police apprehended the suspect and began further investigations into the alleged fraud case.
In a separate incident previously reported in Tripoli, authorities arrested a Nigerian woman and her Ghanaian husband over allegations that they tortured and starved an orphaned child to death. The child’s mother was reported to have died in Libya under unclear circumstances about two years earlier, leaving the child in the couple’s care.
Human trafficking activist Yakubu Oyiza Hope expressed outrage over the incident, describing the case as deeply disturbing and calling for justice.
Authorities say investigations into both cases are ongoing.
