August 5, 2026 | Ilorin, Kwara State
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has presented four luxury vehicles to the Chief Imam of Ilorin and other prominent Islamic leaders in the Ilorin Emirate, a development that has drawn public attention amid ongoing security challenges in parts of the state.
The presentation took place at the Emir of Ilorin’s Palace, where the governor handed over a brand-new Toyota Prado SUV to the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Bashir Dasuki. Three additional vehicles were also presented to the Council of Ulama, Imam Gambari, and Imam Imale.
According to a statement issued by the Kwara State Government on Wednesday, the gesture was aimed at supporting the religious leaders in the discharge of their responsibilities and strengthening the partnership between the government and faith-based institutions.
The latest donation comes barely a week after the AbdulRazaq administration presented vehicles to the Kwara State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), a move the government described as part of its commitment to promoting religious harmony and inclusiveness.
However, the presentation has sparked public debate as several communities across Kwara State continue to battle worsening insecurity.
Residents of Lata Nna Community in Patigi Local Government Area recently reported a deadly attack by suspected bandits, resulting in the death of a woman, the abduction of another resident, and fears that several others may have been killed.
Community members also expressed concerns over what they described as inadequate security presence, alleging that repeated appeals for increased protection had not received the necessary response.
The latest attack reportedly occurred just days after another resident, Mohammed Abubakar Ndakpada Lata, was kidnapped by suspected bandits while returning from his farm. The abductors were said to have demanded a ransom of ₦100 million for his release.
As insecurity continues to affect several communities in the state, many residents have renewed calls for stronger security measures and increased government intervention to protect lives and property.
The Kwara State Government has not indicated the total cost of the vehicles presented to the Islamic leaders.
