A Ghanaian self-styled prophet who sparked nationwide panic with a failed doomsday prophecy has been remanded in custody and ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation by an Adenta District Court.
The suspect, popularly known as Ebo Noah and identified as Evans Eshun, appeared before the court on Friday following his arrest by operatives of the Ghana Police Service Special Cyber Vetting Team on December 31, 2025.
Eshun is facing charges bordering on false communication and the deliberate creation of fear and panic, after he publicly predicted that the world would be submerged by a massive global flood on December 25, 2025.
According to prosecutors, the self-proclaimed prophet aggressively promoted the prophecy across social media platforms, triggering widespread anxiety in Ghana and neighbouring countries. Authorities revealed that hundreds of people reportedly abandoned their homes and travelled with their belongings to Eshun’s premises, where he had built what he described as a modern-day “ark,” claiming it would be the only place of safety.
When the predicted catastrophe failed to occur, Eshun released a video message insisting that his prayers and fasting had convinced God to “postpone” the destruction, rather than acknowledging the prophecy had failed.
Public outrage intensified after he made a controversial appearance at rapper Sarkodie’s Rapperholic 2025 concert, where he told thousands of concertgoers to rejoice because the supposed doom had been delayed.
The court has adjourned the case to January 15, 2026, pending the outcome of the psychiatric assessment ordered to determine Eshun’s mental fitness.
Prior to his arrest, Ghanaian security agencies had issued warnings against prophecies and public declarations capable of causing fear and social unrest, especially during the festive and New Year period.
The case has since reignited national debate on religious extremism, misinformation, public safety, and the limits of free expression, as Ghanaian authorities move to address the social disruption caused by unchecked prophetic claims.
