A political storm has erupted in Kaduna State after Abubakar Mamadi, Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor Uba Sani, openly boasted about alleged past manipulation of election results in Igabi Local Government Area.
Mamadi, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Igabi Federal Constituency, made the shocking remarks while responding to criticisms from former Kaduna State House of Assembly Speaker, Yusuf Zailani, over the outcome of recent APC primary elections in the state.
In a viral video circulating online, Mamadi suggested that alleged irregularities and manipulation associated with party primaries could also influence future general elections.
“We wrote election results in Igabi, not once, not twice,” Mamadi declared during a meeting with political stakeholders.
“If he has forgotten, let me remind him that we wrote election results many times in Igabi. I’m talking about general elections, not just primaries.”
The controversial statement has since triggered widespread reactions and renewed concerns about the credibility of elections in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general polls.
The crisis began after Yusuf Zailani, who recently lost the APC senatorial ticket for Kaduna Central to Senator Shehu Sani, accused party leaders of injustice, intimidation, and producing candidates incapable of winning elections.
“They gave tickets to people who cannot win elections. What they did shows they do not want President Tinubu to succeed in 2027,” Zailani had alleged.
He further insisted that the masses would resist any attempt to manipulate the general elections.
Responding angrily, Mamadi dismissed Zailani’s allegations and accused the former Speaker of hypocrisy, recalling what he described as their previous involvement in manipulating election outcomes.
Mamadi also referenced past encounters with security agencies, including police invitations and alleged EFCC investigations involving Zailani.
“When he was invited by the EFCC, I personally saw how frustrated and scared he was,” Mamadi claimed.
The governor’s aide further stated that political forces loyal to the current Kaduna leadership were strong enough to confront Zailani without outside assistance.
“He is simply pained by defeat and afraid of losing political relevance after occupying power for nearly two decades,” Mamadi added.
The explosive comments have intensified political tension within the Kaduna chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with critics calling for investigations into the allegations surrounding election manipulation.
As Nigeria gradually approaches the 2027 general elections, the controversy is expected to fuel fresh debates about electoral transparency, internal party democracy, and public trust in the nation’s electoral process.
