Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially announced Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) governorship candidate for Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso also confirmed that former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has been selected to contest for the Kano Central Senatorial seat under the same political arrangement.
The former presidential candidate made the announcement in a statement released on Friday through his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to Kwankwaso, the selections were made based on loyalty, competence, fairness, and the need to maintain unity within the Kwankwasiyya political structure ahead of the crucial elections.
“I am delighted to announce that His Excellency, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has been selected as our Kano NDC Governorship Candidate for the upcoming elections,” Kwankwaso stated.
“Similarly, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna will contest for the Kano Central Senatorial Seat.”
The former Kano governor explained that the decision reflected the movement’s commitment to equity, party stability, and political inclusiveness.
“This decision was made in the spirit of fairness, loyalty, competence, and unity, which remain central to the progress of our movement and party,” he added.
The announcement comes as the party prepares for its scheduled affirmation exercise aimed at officially ratifying consensus candidates ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadlines for the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso called on party supporters and members of the Kwankwasiyya movement to remain peaceful, united, and focused on delivering victory at the polls.
“As we proceed with today’s affirmation exercise, I pray for a smooth, peaceful, and successful process. May Almighty Allah grant us resounding victory in the forthcoming elections,” he said.
The latest development signals growing political realignments and early preparations ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 general election in Kano State and across Nigeria.
