The Super Lig champions Galatasaray have reportedly placed Nigerian international Ademola Lookman on their shortlist ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window, according to renowned Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Lookman has struggled to find his rhythm at Atalanta this season after a turbulent summer in which he attempted to secure a move to Inter Milan. Despite enjoying an impressive campaign last year, the 26-year-old has found goals hard to come by, scoring just once in ten appearances across all competitions.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed that Lookman is indeed one of the players Galatasaray are monitoring. However, he dismissed recent reports claiming that a deal had already been completed.
“Atalanta will have to make a choice in January after rejecting an offer from Inter and Bayern Munich at the end of the transfer window,” Romano said.
“In Turkey, they have been saying in the last few days that an agreement is already in place to bring Lookman to Galatasaray in January. This is not the case today. There is nothing done between Galatasaray and Lookman’s agent, and nothing between Galatasaray and Atalanta.”
Romano added that while Galatasaray retain strong interest, the Turkish giants are evaluating several targets.
“Lookman was a target for Galatasaray in the last few days of the summer window, and he remains a player they are considering. But he is not the only one. Galatasaray want to make at least one big signing in January, so expect them to be very active.”
He stressed that, as of now, no negotiations or formal discussions have begun regarding Lookman’s potential move.
“Lookman is on their list, but today no negotiations have started. There is no agreement and no operation underway.”
Transfermarkt data shows that Lookman’s contract with Atalanta runs until June 2027, a detail that places added pressure on the club as they assess his long-term future. By the summer of 2026, the winger would enter the final year of his contract—an undesirable scenario for Atalanta, who risk losing leverage in future transfer dealings.
