The Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement has announced plans to stage a nationwide protest on June 12, Nigeria’s Democracy Day, citing worsening insecurity, economic hardship, alleged violations of civil liberties, and what it described as governance failures under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The decision was reached during the movement’s General Assembly meeting held on June 7, 2026, attended by members, state coordinators, and leaders from across the country.
In a communiqué jointly signed by the National Coordinator, Juwon Sanyaolu, and General Secretary, Stephen Olabiyi, the group expressed concern over what it described as rising poverty, insecurity, corruption, and declining democratic freedoms in Nigeria.
According to the movement, millions of Nigerians are facing severe economic challenges as inflation, unemployment, and the high cost of living continue to impact households nationwide.
The group also criticized the government’s handling of insecurity, pointing to recent incidents of kidnapping and violence in several states, including Oyo, Kwara, Borno, and Ekiti.
The communiqué further alleged that democratic rights and freedoms are under threat, claiming that peaceful protests and dissenting voices are increasingly being targeted.
As part of its resolutions, the movement announced plans for a nationwide demonstration on June 12, calling on Nigerians to demand improved security, economic relief measures, respect for fundamental human rights, and the rescue of citizens currently held by kidnappers.
The organization directed its coordinators, students, workers, traders, and civil society partners across the country to begin mobilization efforts ahead of the planned protest.
The movement stated that the demonstration would be peaceful and aimed at drawing attention to issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.
Meanwhile, there has been no official response from the Federal Government regarding the planned protest at the time of this report.
Political observers say the June 12 demonstration could become a significant test of public sentiment as Nigerians continue to debate issues surrounding security, economic reforms, and governance.
