Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has launched a scathing criticism of United States policies, accusing Washington of fueling conflict in the Middle East and acting in the interest of Israel at the expense of its own citizens.
In an open letter addressed to the American public, Pezeshkian argued that ongoing narratives about Iran are distorted and politically motivated, insisting that Iran has historically maintained a defensive posture.
“Iran has never initiated a war,” he stated, adding that the country has only responded to external aggression while remaining resilient in the face of pressure.
The Iranian leader stressed that his country harbours no hostility toward the people of United States or other nations, noting that Iranians traditionally distinguish between governments and citizens.
He, however, questioned the motives behind U.S. foreign policy in the region, claiming that Iran is being portrayed as a threat to justify military expansion.
According to him, the United States has built a significant military presence around Iran, while Tehran continues to act within what it considers legitimate self-defence.
Pezeshkian also revisited historical grievances, referencing the 1953 Iranian coup d’état, which he described as a turning point that damaged trust between both nations. He further cited U.S. support for the Shah and backing of Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war as factors that deepened tensions.
Despite decades of sanctions and geopolitical pressure, the Iranian president claimed that his country has made progress in education, healthcare, and technology, while warning of the humanitarian impact of continued conflict.
In one of his strongest remarks, he suggested that U.S. involvement in the current crisis is being driven by Israel.
“Is America fighting this war as a proxy for Israel?” he asked, adding that Israel appears willing to “fight Iran to the last American soldier and the last American taxpayer dollar.”
He also questioned whether such actions align with the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump, particularly the “America First” agenda.
Pezeshkian accused Washington of undermining diplomatic efforts, claiming that Iran had previously engaged in negotiations and upheld agreements, only for tensions to escalate afterward.
He warned that continued attacks on infrastructure and military escalation would deepen instability, increase human suffering, and prolong conflict across the region.
Concluding his message, the Iranian president urged Americans to look beyond political narratives and consider alternative perspectives, emphasizing that the global community now faces a critical choice between sustained confrontation and meaningful engagement.
