Bandits have killed two residents and injured six others in a deadly early-morning attack on Naino village, Naalma Ward, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources told SUNTV Global Channel that the attackers struck at about 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, storming the community from the Musawa axis. The gunmen reportedly fired sporadically, triggering panic and chaos as residents fled for safety.
At least eight villagers sustained gunshot wounds during the assault. Joint security forces were swiftly deployed to the area, while the injured were rushed to Malumfashi General Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Hospital sources confirmed that two victims — Kamala Lawal (35) and Tijjani Umaru (35) — were pronounced dead on arrival by a medical doctor. The remaining six victims are currently receiving treatment and are said to be in stable condition.
Security intelligence expert Zagazola Makama disclosed that, following the attack, security operatives mounted blockades along suspected escape routes used by the assailants. Cordon-and-search operations have also been launched in surrounding communities to track down the perpetrators.
Authorities have since reinforced security presence in and around Naino village to forestall further attacks, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The latest assault underscores the persistent banditry crisis confronting rural communities across Katsina State, despite sustained security operations aimed at restoring peace.
