A Kano State High Court has fixed April 15, 2026, for the hearing of preliminary objections and pending applications in the corruption trial involving former Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his wife, Prof. Hafsat Ganduje, and their son, Abba Ganduje.
The case, which is before Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, also includes six other defendants accused of various corruption-related offences.
The Kano State Government filed an 11-count charge against the former governor, who is also an immediate past APC National Chairman, alongside his wife and others. The charges border on bribery, conspiracy, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds allegedly running into billions of naira.
Other defendants named in the suit include Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, as well as corporate entities — Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited.
At the court session, counsel to the state government, Victor Oni, informed the court that the prosecution was ready to proceed with a motion on notice dated November 2025, seeking permission to introduce additional evidence against the defendants.
However, counsel representing Ganduje, his wife, and son, Lydia Oluwakemi-Oyewo, told the court that the defence was prepared to move its motion for stay of proceedings, dated July 2025.
Counsel to the third and seventh defendants, Adekunle Taiye-Falola, also indicated readiness to move a motion on notice dated May 23, 2025, subject to the court’s approval.
Similarly, counsel to the sixth defendant, Abubakar Ahmad, disclosed that a preliminary objection and an application for extension of time to respond on points of law, dated February 2, 2026, had been filed. He requested an adjournment, noting that the application was not yet ripe for hearing.
After listening to all parties, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu adjourned the matter to April 15, 2026, for the hearing of all preliminary objections and pending applications.
