Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council, ordering all political appointees to immediately hand over to top civil servants in their respective ministries.

The directive, announced on Thursday in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, affects all commissioners and special advisers, effectively ending their tenure.

According to the statement, the affected officials have been instructed to transfer responsibilities without delay to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their ministries to ensure continuity in government operations.

Governor Fubara, while acknowledging their exit, expressed gratitude to the outgoing cabinet members for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.

The sweeping shake-up comes barely 48 hours after renewed reconciliation efforts between Fubara and his political rival, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Earlier this week, President Bola Tinubu hosted a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja involving Fubara, Wike, and key political stakeholders from Rivers State. Although official details were not disclosed, sources described the talks as part of ongoing efforts by the Presidency to end the prolonged political crisis in the oil-rich state.

Insiders also revealed that following the meeting, Governor Fubara accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja — a move seen by observers as a symbolic step toward easing tensions.

Rivers State has been embroiled in a bitter power struggle since late 2023, after the once-close allies fell out over control of the state’s political structure. The feud triggered parallel factions within the State House of Assembly, impeachment attempts, legal battles, and heightened political uncertainty.

The latest cabinet dissolution is widely viewed as a significant political move that could reshape the balance of power in the state amid ongoing peace efforts.

SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor developments as the situation unfolds.
