The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a self-acclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, for allegedly extorting $1,100 from an Indian woman through a sextortion scheme.
The EFCC, in a statement released on Friday, August 7, 2026, said the suspect was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, following allegations that he threatened to release a private video of the victim online.
According to the anti-graft agency, Moses allegedly presented himself on the social media platform Zelle as a spiritual healer with supernatural abilities. The victim, who was reportedly seeking spiritual assistance over personal challenges, contacted him for help.
The EFCC alleged that the suspect convinced the woman to carry out a nude spiritual bath, which he secretly recorded without her consent.
The agency said Moses later used the video to threaten and blackmail the woman, demanding money from her with the threat of making the footage public.
EFCC investigations revealed that the victim eventually paid $1,100 to the suspect in an attempt to stop the alleged release of the video.
The commission said the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
The EFCC warned members of the public to be cautious of online fraudsters who exploit personal information, private images and emotional vulnerabilities to commit crimes.
