ABUJA, Nigeria — The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited the National President of the Association of Northern Nigerian Students (ANNS), Comrade Sani Adamu, following the group’s recent press conference in which it issued a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government over the alleged continued detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Adamu confirmed that he received a phone call from an official at the DSS National Headquarters in Abuja after the association submitted copies of its statement to relevant government agencies, including the security service.
According to him, the official requested that he report to the DSS headquarters on Monday, August 3, 2026, for discussions regarding the issues raised during the press conference.
In a statement, the Association of Northern Nigerian Students said its National President would honour the invitation alongside members of the association’s National Executive Council.
The group explained that the meeting would provide an opportunity for constructive engagement with the DSS on matters relating to its demands, adding that it remains committed to peaceful dialogue, the rule of law and national stability.
ANNS also called on the media, civil society organisations and members of the public to closely monitor the development, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, peaceful advocacy and the protection of fundamental human rights.
The DSS has not publicly commented on the invitation at the time of filing this report.
