SUNTV Global Channel – Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has issued a stern warning to members of the Armed Forces, declaring that any soldier who hesitates to engage terrorists or bandits while waiting for superior orders will be treated as a bandit.
The Defence Minister made the statement on Wednesday during the handover of newly acquired military equipment to troops in Sokoto State, where he urged security personnel to take decisive action against criminal elements immediately they are deployed.
According to Musa, the Federal Government has invested billions of naira in strengthening the nation’s military capabilities and expects the equipment to be effectively used in combating insecurity across the country.
He also directed troops to properly maintain the newly acquired equipment, warning that the military would inspect its condition after one year to ensure it had not been neglected or misused.
“This equipment was purchased with taxpayers’ money and must be used for the purpose it was acquired,” the minister said, stressing that soldiers have a duty to protect Nigerians and neutralise security threats without hesitation.
Musa reiterated that military personnel should not wait for further instructions before confronting armed bandits or terrorists once deployed to operational areas.
The Defence Minister further reassured residents of Sokoto State and Nigerians nationwide that the Federal Government remains committed to restoring peace and strengthening national security.
His remarks come as Nigeria continues to battle multiple security challenges, including insurgency in the North-East, banditry in the North-West and North-Central, as well as other violent attacks affecting different parts of the country.
Despite increased defence spending and renewed military operations, security agencies have continued to face criticism over persistent attacks, delayed responses to emergencies and the ongoing threat posed by armed groups.
The latest directive underscores the government’s determination to intensify military operations and improve the fight against terrorism, banditry and other forms of violent crime across Nigeria.
