The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has ordered the remand of two children of slain Abuja businessman, Adimike Godwin, alongside another suspect, over their alleged involvement in his death.
The suspects — Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, the deceased’s son; Adimike Chinyere Stephany, his daughter; and Comfort Ajibade — were arraigned before FCT High Court 13 on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
The court ordered that the three defendants be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings and adjourned the case until September 30, 2026.
According to the FCT Police Command, the case followed the death of Adimike Godwin, who was allegedly attacked at his residence in the Guzape area of Abuja on May 15, 2026.
Police said detectives were alerted after a family member reported difficulties reaching the businessman. Upon arrival at the residence, officers reportedly found him unconscious with multiple stab wounds.
He was rushed to Karu General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Following investigations ordered by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, five suspects were initially arrested, including the deceased’s son, daughter, driver, gateman and Comfort Ajibade.
Police later filed charges against the deceased’s children and Ajibade, while the driver and gateman were not among those arraigned.
The charge sheet accused the three suspects of conspiring to commit culpable homicide and being responsible for the death of Adimike Godwin.
The police also included additional charges under Nigeria’s Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, alleging that some of the defendants entered into a same-sex civil union.
The arraignment comes after the suspects had earlier filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police and the FCT Commissioner of Police, alleging unlawful detention and violation of their constitutional rights.
The applicants had requested their release from custody, enforcement of their fundamental rights and an order directing authorities to either charge them to court or release them if no evidence existed against them.
The FCT Police Command said it remains committed to ensuring justice for the deceased while respecting the rights of all parties involved in the judicial process.
