ILORIN, KWARA STATE — The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election for the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency has come under legal scrutiny following allegations of numerical inconsistencies in documents filed before the Federal High Court in Ilorin.
The case, filed by one of the party’s aspirants, Hussein Afolabi, challenges the nomination of the APC’s House of Representatives candidate for the 2027 general election, alleging that certified primary election result sheets contain figures that are mathematically inconsistent.
According to court filings, one of the disputed result sheets records APC candidate Mohammed Mamman with 21,676 votes in Patigi Local Government Area, while the same document lists the total number of accredited voters as 21,315. The plaintiff argues that the figures are impossible, as the votes credited to the candidate alone exceed the recorded number of voters.
The suit further alleges that the combined votes allocated to all aspirants in the same Patigi Local Government result sheet amount to 27,408 votes, despite the document indicating a total voter count of 21,315.
The plaintiff also claims that similar discrepancies appear in result sheets from Edu and Moro Local Government Areas, arguing that the inconsistencies raise serious questions about the credibility of the primary election results and the nomination process.
In the suit, Afolabi contends that no officially declared primary election result was announced before the APC submitted Mohammed Mamman’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its candidate.
However, the APC has rejected the allegations. In its counter-affidavit before the court, the party insists that its primary election was conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act, the APC Constitution, and all applicable legal requirements, maintaining that the nomination of its candidate remains valid.
The matter is currently before the Federal High Court in Ilorin, where the court is expected to determine the validity of the claims and the legality of the party’s primary election process.
