Convention Trip Turns Tragic: Worshippers Die In Adamawa Crash — SUNTV Global Report

Grief has engulfed communities in Adamawa State after a fatal road accident claimed the lives of Christian worshippers travelling to a major church gathering on Monday.

SUNTV Global gathered that the victims were on their way to the annual convention of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria when the tragedy occurred along the Song–Girei highway at about 4:00 p.m.

The worshippers, who reportedly departed from Simra in the Dumne Chiefdom of Song Local Government Area, were heading toward Demsa for the religious event when their pickup van suddenly lost control.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle veered off the road and somersaulted several times, leaving multiple occupants trapped.

Local authorities confirmed that at least three victims died, while several others sustained serious injuries. Most of those affected were said to be women.

The Vice Chairman of Song LGA, Donan Prambe, who witnessed the crash, described the incident as shocking.

“It was a horrifying scene. The vehicle was alone on the road, and suddenly it lost control and began somersaulting. I cannot immediately say what caused it,” she said.

SUNTV Global learned that the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Specialist Hospital in Yola, where injured survivors are currently receiving treatment.

Community sources revealed that the victims were part of a larger delegation travelling from the agrarian Simra community to attend the national convention when the accident happened near Jabbi Lamba, close to Gonan Lamido in Girei.

The tragedy has thrown families, church members, and residents into mourning, with prayers ongoing for the victims and those still battling injuries.

Meanwhile, the incident has reignited fresh concerns about road safety as more delegates continue to journey to the Demsa convention.
