The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas to order a full investigation into the alleged diversion and mismanagement of more than ₦6.3 billion in constituency project funds.
In a letter dated June 27, 2026, SERAP urged the leadership of the National Assembly to refer the allegations to relevant anti-corruption agencies for investigation and possible prosecution of anyone found culpable.
The organisation also demanded the publication of the names of contractors, companies, shareholders, and beneficial owners who allegedly received constituency project funds but failed to execute the approved projects.
According to SERAP, the allegations are contained in the Auditor-General of the Federation’s 2022 Annual Report, published on September 9, 2025, which reportedly uncovered widespread financial and procurement irregularities across several federal ministries, departments, and agencies.
The organisation alleged that the report identified cases involving payments into private bank accounts, contracts awarded without due process, payments for projects that were allegedly never executed, undocumented expenditures, inflated contract costs, and failures to properly account for public funds.
Among the agencies mentioned are the Environmental Health Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON), the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Vom, the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
SERAP argued that the alleged diversion of public funds has deprived Nigerians of essential development projects and weakened public confidence in government institutions.
The organisation gave the National Assembly seven days to take action, warning that it would pursue legal action if its demands were ignored.
As of the time of filing this report, the National Assembly leadership had not publicly responded to SERAP’s allegations and demands.
The allegations remain subject to investigation by the appropriate authorities.
