BREAKING: Nigerian Leaders Focused on 2027 Politics While Terrorists Tighten Grip on Communities — Ejiofor

Human rights lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has accused Nigeria’s political elite of prioritizing preparations for the 2027 general elections while insecurity continues to spread across communities nationwide.

In a strongly worded statement released on Wednesday, Ejiofor warned that the country is facing a deepening security crisis as terrorists and armed bandits continue to launch attacks, displace residents, and establish strongholds in several regions.

According to him, repeated warnings about the growing threat of terrorism were ignored over the years, allowing criminal groups to expand their operations and gain control of vulnerable areas.

“The nation is sitting on a keg of gunpowder,” Ejiofor said, lamenting that many leaders appear either unwilling or unable to tackle the worsening security situation.

He criticized politicians for concentrating on electoral calculations and political alliances ahead of 2027 instead of developing effective strategies to protect citizens and secure communities.

The lawyer noted that terrorists and bandits have become increasingly organized and sophisticated, making security operations more challenging. He further expressed concern over public perceptions that some criminal elements may be receiving protection from influential individuals within government circles.

Ejiofor called on communities across Nigeria, particularly in the South-East, to strengthen lawful vigilance structures, support legitimate security initiatives, and remain proactive in safeguarding lives and property.

Drawing lessons from Nigeria’s history, including the anti-Igbo pogroms and the Nigerian Civil War, he stressed the importance of preparedness, unity, and collective action in the face of growing security threats.

He urged Nigerians not to ignore the warning signs, emphasizing that communities that fail to prepare for foreseeable dangers often pay a heavy price.

“The time for denial has passed. The time for vigilance, preparedness, unity, and constructive action is now,” he stated.
