Gombe A casual staff member attached to the Gombe State Government House has been killed under suspicious circumstances, sparking shock and concern within the seat of power.The deceased, Mallam Umar, popularly known as Baba Usama, was a borehole operator working at the newly renovated Taraba House within the Government House complex.Sources told SUNTV Global Channel that the incident occurred at about 3:50pm on Friday, December 26, 2025, when Umar was found lying motionless on the premises.
He was reportedly discovered with his trousers tied around his neck, while a local intoxicant known as rubber solution was found inserted in his mouth.The victim was immediately rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.Confirming the incident, the Spokesperson of the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed that a suspect, Shuaibu Adamu, has been arrested in connection with the killing.
According to the police, the suspect—also a casual staff member—worked as a watchman attached to a construction company handling projects within the Government House.DSP Abdullahi revealed that the suspect was seen assaulting the deceased shortly before his death, raising strong suspicion of foul play.“The Gombe State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a tragic incident of culpable homicide involving two casual staff working within the Gombe Government House premises,” the statement said.
Police further disclosed that following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, MNIPS, fwc, psc(+), personally visited the scene and ordered a thorough and discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to aid ongoing investigations.The police assured members of the public that justice will be served, while urging calm as the investigation continues.SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more details emerge.
