Bandits have carried out a deadly midnight attack on a private residence in Pindiga town, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, killing two siblings—including a pregnant woman—and abducting two others.
SUNTV Global Channel gathered that the attack occurred late on Saturday night, when heavily armed gunmen stormed the house under the cover of darkness, firing shots indiscriminately and throwing the community into chaos.
The victims were identified as Prince Yusuf Derdoski and his pregnant sister. Two other siblings were reportedly whisked away by the attackers to an unknown destination.
Residents described the killings as brutal and shocking, noting that the incident has plunged Pindiga into deep mourning. Many locals expressed fear and frustration over what they described as recurring security lapses in parts of the state, saying rural communities remain exposed to bandit attacks.
Confirming the incident, the Gombe State Police Command said it received a distress call at about 3:30 a.m., prompting an immediate response. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed that senior officers, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), were deployed to the area.
“Following this development, tactical and intelligence-led operations were immediately intensified. Hunters and local vigilante groups have been mobilised, and concerted efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” Abdullahi said.
He added that tactical units, alongside hunters and vigilantes, are tracking the attackers and urged residents to remain calm while providing credible intelligence to support ongoing operations.
Reacting to the attack, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya condemned the killings, describing them as “barbaric, cruel and utterly unacceptable.”
In a statement issued by his press secretary, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor said the attack was a direct assault on the peace and stability Gombe State has worked to sustain.
“This dastardly act is a direct assault on our collective conscience and a painful test of our resolve to protect lives and property. The government and people of Gombe State share in the grief of the affected families and the entire Pindiga community,” the statement read.
Governor Yahaya directed security agencies to intensify operations, strengthen intelligence gathering, and deepen collaboration with local communities, warning that criminals would find no safe haven in Gombe State.
He also condoled with the bereaved families and the Pindiga Emirate, praying for the safe return of the abducted siblings.
